The adrenal glands are vital glands positioned above the kidneys and consist of two main segments: the outer adrenal cortex and the inner adrenal medulla. They produce vital hormones that control a variety of critical functions in the body, including metabolism, the regulation of blood pressure and salt balance, and the response to stress through the release of adrenaline and noradrenaline.
These hormones also influence sexual characteristics and are essential for maintaining the body’s homeostasis. Malfunctions of the adrenal glands that lead to an over- or underproduction of these hormones can have serious health consequences.
