Alexandrite Laser

The alexandrite laser is a specialized form of laser used in hair removal and dermatology. Its core component is an alexandrite crystal, which serves as a medium for generating light. This crystal enables the laser to emit light at a wavelength of 755 nm, which is particularly effective for removing dark hair on people with light to medium skin color.

The alexandrite laser targets the melanin in the hair follicles. The melanin absorbs the laser light, which is then converted into heat and destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. This process reduces hair growth and can lead to long-lasting or permanent hair reduction.

However, it is important to mention that the alexandrite laser is not suitable for all skin types. For those with darker skin, the Nd:YAG laser is often a better choice. This laser uses a longer wavelength of 1064 nm, which penetrates deeper into the skin and minimizes the risk of skin damage, making it safer for darker skin types. Like the alexandrite laser, the Nd:YAG laser also targets the melanin in the hair, but due to its properties, it is better able to distinguish the contrast between skin color and hair color.
