Amino acids

Amino acids are organic compounds that serve as building blocks for proteins. They contain an amino group (-NH2), a carboxyl group (-COOH) and a variable side chain that is specific to each amino acid. There are 20 standard amino acids in the human body, which are put together in different combinations to form a variety of proteins.

Proteins are essential for numerous biological functions, including building and repairing tissues, acting as enzymes and hormones, and supporting the immune system. Proteins, especially keratin, play a decisive role in relation to hair. Keratin is a protein that forms the main component of hair and gives it its structure and strength. The quality and health of the hair therefore depend directly on the availability and correct structure of the amino acids required for the formation of keratin.

An adequate supply of certain amino acids through the diet or supplementary foods can strengthen the hair structure, promote growth and contribute to the general well-being of the hair. Amino acids such as cysteine, methionine, lysine and arginine are particularly important for keratin production and therefore for healthy hair. Deficiencies or an unbalanced intake of these amino acids can lead to hair problems such as brittleness, hair loss and reduced hair quality.
