A dermatologist is a physician who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases and conditions of the skin, hair, nails and mucous membranes. This specialty of medicine, known as dermatology, covers a wide range of conditions, from acne, eczema and psoriasis to skin cancer and complex autoimmune diseases of the skin.
Dermatologists perform a variety of functions, including conducting skin examinations to identify various skin conditions, performing biopsies and other diagnostic procedures to determine the causes of skin problems, prescribing topical and systemic medications, and performing dermatologic surgical procedures.
In addition to these medical services, dermatologists also offer a range of aesthetic treatments, such as the removal of warts, moles and skin tags, laser therapies to treat scars and hair removal, and anti-ageing treatments, including Botox injections and fillers.
