Hair types are determined on the basis of characteristic properties that are influenced by the shape and structure of the hair follicles. Straight hair, known as type 1, occurs when the hair follicle is round, making the hair appear smooth and often oily. Wavy hair, or Type 2, is formed by slightly oval follicles that create a soft, wavy texture that is somewhere between straight and curly and sometimes prone to frizz.
Curly hair, referred to as type 3, results from an even more oval follicle that leads to clearly defined curls that can range from loose ringlets to tight corkscrews. The final hair type, frizzy hair or type 4, is the product of extremely oval or almost flat follicles that create a very tight, often zigzag curl structure that requires extra intensive care to retain moisture and prevent breakage.
These different hair textures require individually adapted care routines, as they differ in their tendency to dryness, oiliness and sensitivity to environmental influences. Knowing your own hair type not only helps you to choose the right products, but also to develop an effective care routine that promotes the natural beauty and health of your hair.
