HR stands for “hair reduction” and is an umbrella term for various methods for permanently removing or reducing unwanted body hair. The most popular techniques include laser hair removal and the SHR (Super Hair Removal) method. These methods use light sources and lasers to destroy the hair follicles and thus prevent or delay hair regrowth.
Laser hair removal uses a concentrated beam of light (laser) to destroy the hair roots. The energy of the laser is absorbed by melanin, the pigment that gives hair and skin their color. This absorption causes the energy to be converted into heat and damages the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding tissue. The effectiveness of this method depends heavily on the color and texture of the hair as well as the skin type, as darker hair contains more melanin and can absorb the laser light better than lighter hair.
SHR technology, on the other hand, is a newer method of hair reduction that uses a high-frequency sequence of light pulses. Unlike traditional laser hair removal, which uses targeted, intense flashes of light, SHR works with lower energy levels, but delivered in rapid succession. This allows for even heating of the hair follicles with less risk of burning, making the treatment safer and more comfortable. Another advantage of SHR (Super Hair Removal) technology is its effectiveness on different skin and hair types, including lighter hair and darker skin tones, as not only melanin but also the protein of the hair follicle serves as a target for energy transfer.
Both laser hair removal and SHR technology offer permanent solutions to unwanted hair growth by reducing the ability of hair follicles to produce hair. While the choice of method depends on individual factors such as skin type, hair color and personal preference, both procedures have the common goal of improving a person’s quality of life through effective and long-lasting hair reduction.
