Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal is a cosmetic treatment method that uses laser light to permanently reduce or remove unwanted hair. In this procedure, laser light is directed at the skin, which is absorbed by the pigment melanin contained in the hair follicle. The absorbed light energy is converted into heat, which damages or destroys the hair follicle, preventing or at least significantly delaying hair regrowth.

Laser hair removal is used for various areas of the body, including the face, underarms, legs, bikini line and back. It is popular with people looking for a long-term hair removal solution and, when used correctly, can lead to a permanent reduction in hair growth.

Various types of laser are used for hair removal, which differ in their specific properties and are therefore suitable for different skin types and hair colors. Diode lasers, which work with a wavelength of around 810 nm, are particularly effective on light to medium skin and dark hair and are characterized by their ability to penetrate deep into the skin to work on the hair root. They are well suited to areas with thicker hair. Alexandrite lasers with a wavelength of 755 nm, on the other hand, are effective on fair skin and dark hair, can treat larger areas quickly, but carry a higher risk of skin changes in darker skin due to higher melanin absorption. Nd:YAG lasers use a longer wavelength of 1064 nm, which absorbs less melanin and is therefore safer for darker skin types. They are suitable for a wide range of skin types and hair colors, including finer hair.

The choice of laser type depends on several factors, including skin type, hair color, treatment area and individual reactions to the treatment. A professional consultation prior to treatment can help determine the most appropriate laser type for individual needs.
