Pili trianguli (uncombed hair syndrome)

Pili trianguli, also known as uncombable hair syndrome, is a rare genetic disorder characterized by dry, straw-like and often light blonde hair that stands out from the head and is extremely difficult to comb. Under the microscope, a characteristic triangular or heart-shaped form of the hair structure can be seen, which is caused by the anomaly in the keratin structure of the hair. In contrast to the normal round cross-section of healthy hair, the hair takes on a flattened or triangular shaft shape. This change in shape, which originates in the hair follicles, causes the hairs to become easily entangled, resulting in the characteristic uncombed appearance.

The syndrome typically manifests in early childhood and may improve over time or disappear during puberty. Although there is no specific treatment, using mild hair care products and avoiding harsh chemical treatments can help to improve the texture of the hair and make it easier to comb. The main problem with pili trianguli lies in the cosmetic concerns it brings, and although it does not cause pain or serious health problems, it can be a source of stress and discomfort for sufferers, especially in terms of self-image and social acceptance.
