Split ends, also known as trichoptilosis or trichoptilosis, is the condition in which the ends of the hair split, which is caused by weakening or damage to the hair as a result of physical, chemical or thermal influences. Common causes of split ends are mechanical damage caused by frequent brushing, chemical treatments such as dyeing and bleaching, exposure to heat from hair dryers or straighteners, environmental influences such as UV light, wind, chlorine and salt water, and inadequate hair care.
The effects of split ends are manifold: the hair looks unkempt and dull, the condition of the hair deteriorates and the risk of hair breakage increases. To prevent and treat split ends, it is advisable to cut the ends of the hair regularly, use mild hair care products, reduce heat styling and protect the hair from harmful environmental influences. These measures can significantly reduce the risk of split ends and improve the health of the hair.
