Stubble

Stubble refers to the short, spiky hairs that remain on the skin after shaving, cutting or trimming hair. They occur when hair follicles, the microscopic structures in the skin from which hair grows, leave cut hairs just above or directly on the surface of the skin, which then start to grow again. This stubble is not only limited to the face, where it is often noticeable and visible in beards and moustaches, but also appears on other areas of the body, such as the legs, under the arms or in the genital area, depending on individual hair removal preferences and practices.

The texture of these regrowing hairs can vary greatly – from soft and barely noticeable to very hard and rough. This depends on several factors, such as the natural thickness and color of the hair as well as the angle at which the hair was cut off during shaving or trimming. Darker and thicker hairs tend to leave more visible and noticeably spiky stubble compared to finer or lighter hair textures.

The process of regrowth can be perceived as uncomfortable by many people, especially when the stubble takes on a scratchy texture. This is a common reason why many people prefer regular shaving or other methods of hair removal to keep the skin smooth and free of unwanted hair growth.
