Temporary hair loss refers to the temporary loss of hair caused by various factors such as hormonal changes, stress, nutritional deficiencies, illness or medical treatment. Hormonal fluctuations, such as those that occur during pregnancy, after childbirth or during the menopause, can lead to temporary hair loss. Hormonal disorders such as an underactive thyroid gland (hypothyroidism) or overactive thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism) can also affect the hair cycle and lead to hair loss.

High levels of stress or traumatic events can disrupt the hair growth cycle and lead to temporary hair loss, which often occurs a few months after the stress-inducing event. This type of hair loss is known as telogen effluvium. An unbalanced diet or deficiencies, in particular a lack of iron, zinc, vitamin D and other important nutrients, can also affect hair growth and lead to temporary hair loss.

Certain illnesses such as infections, fever or chronic diseases as well as medical treatments such as chemotherapy can also lead to temporary hair loss. After treatment or recovery, the hair usually grows back. Temporary hair loss is usually reversible. Once the underlying cause has been identified and treated, the hair cycle normalizes and hair growth resumes.

Support through a balanced diet, stress management and, if necessary, medical treatment can promote the healing process. Temporary hair loss is a temporary condition that usually disappears on its own once the triggering factors have been eliminated.
