Trichoclasia refers to an abnormality of the hair in which the hair breaks along its length, resulting in irregular, kinked and weakened hair strands. This weakness can be caused by various factors such as mechanical stress, chemical damage or certain medical conditions that weaken the structure of the hair. A special form of trichoclasia is the so-called pseudomonilethrix, in which the hair has transparent nodules that mark the breakage points.
Diagnosis is often made by examining the hair under a microscope to determine the specific damage. Treatment focuses on strengthening the hair structure, minimizing mechanical stress and treating any underlying health conditions to improve hair growth and strength.
