Vitamin D

Vitamin D is an essential, fat-soluble vitamin that occurs in various forms, in particular as vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). While vitamin D3 is formed by sunlight on the skin, vitamin D2 comes from plant sources and fortified foods. Vitamin D contributes significantly to the absorption of calcium and phosphorus, which in turn is important for the maintenance of bones and teeth. It also supports the immune system, promotes muscle health and plays a role in regulating inflammation.

An adequate supply of vitamin D is essential for general health. In addition to its role in bone health, vitamin D supports the immune system, muscle health and the inflammatory process in the body. There is evidence that vitamin D may also have positive effects on the cardiovascular system and the prevention of certain diseases.

Another interesting phenomenon associated with vitamin D is its potential effect on hair growth. Studies suggest that an adequate supply of vitamin D and in particular the regular intake of high doses of vitamin D can promote hair growth. This is particularly beneficial for people with vitamin D deficiency and certain forms of hair loss, such as non-scarring alopecia, as vitamin D is thought to stimulate hair follicles and support the hair growth cycle.
